JOHOR BAHRU, MALAYSIA: On Monday (28 Aug), a tragic collision occurred in the Malaysian state of Johor involving a lorry and a car carrying two Singaporean women along with a Singapore permanent resident.
This unfortunate incident took place at Ladang Cenas, Bandar Tenggara, Johor, resulting in the fatal loss of their lives.
Both drivers of the two vehicles sustained injuries but managed to survive.
Bandar Tenggara fire station operations commander Senior Fire Officer II Mohd Norul Fazudin Shafie said firemen were immediately dispatched to the scene after receiving a report on the incident at 1:52 p.m., as reported by Malay Mail.
“A total of six members with the assistance of a Fire Rescue Tender (FRT) rushed to the scene.
“Upon arrival, checks revealed that the accident involved a Honda Freed MPV with a Roll On Roll Off (RORO) lorry,” he said in a statement.
Furthermore, as reported by CNA, Hussin Zamora, the police chief of Kota Tinggi, affirmed that a Singapore-registered Honda Freed MPV was en route from the Kluang district to Bandar Tenggara in Kota Tinggi when it collided with an oncoming lorry.
“The accident happened when the Singapore Honda Freed was overtaking a vehicle in front of it but could not avoid the lorry coming from the opposite direction and the two vehicles collided head-on,” he said.
Mr Hussin further mentioned that the unfortunate demise of the two Singaporean women occurred at the ages of 56 and 61.
The third individual who tragically lost her life, a Malaysian woman holding Singapore permanent residency, was also 61 years old.
Regarding the injured drivers, the Johor Fire and Rescue Department identified them as a 59-year-old Singaporean man and a 49-year-old Malaysian man.
Mr Hussin explained that both individuals were transported to Kota Tinggi Hospital and Kluang Hospital, respectively, to receive necessary medical treatment.
“After the victims’ families have identified the bodies of the loved ones who were killed, they will be released to their families as quickly as possible,” he said.
On Tuesday, Singapore’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) announced that it has been providing consular aid and assistance to the families of the Singaporean individuals affected by the incident.
This support is being facilitated through the Consulate-General located in Johor.
“MFA extends its deepest condolences to the bereaved families,” it said.
