SELANGOR, MALAYSIA: A tragic incident transpired on the afternoon of 17 August when a plane crashed near Shah Alam in the Malaysian state of Selangor, claiming the lives of 10 individuals.
Datuk Seri Johari Harun, a member of the Pahang state executive council and the chairman of the state Local Government, Housing, Environment and Green Technology Committee, is believed to have been among those onboard.
The aircraft, departing from Langkawi International Airport at 2:08 pm, was en route to Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport in Subang.
Johari, serving his first term as a Pelangai assemblyman, is said to have travelled to Langkawi earlier in the day alongside other Pahang state executive council members.
While the condition of all the passengers and crew remains uncertain as of this report, Selangor police have confirmed the loss of all eight individuals onboard.
In addition to the aviation tragedy, two motorists, a car driver and a motorcyclist, also lost their lives in the accident, according to the New Straits Times.
Images from the crash site circulating on social media reveal the harrowing scene: the aircraft appears to have crashed on a road just outside the city of Elmina.
The Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) had earlier verified that an aircraft, housing six passengers and two crew members, met its tragic end near Elmina, Shah Alam.
This incident was further confirmed by Shah Alam district police chief ACP Mohd Iqbal Ibrahim.
The aircraft, identified as the vintage Fouga CM-170 Magister, was a two-seat jet trainer from the 1950s, developed by the French aircraft manufacturer Établissements Fouga & Cie.
The incident has gone viral on social media with photos and videos being shared by netizens and Whatapps users.
According to Harian Metro, a witness who wants to be known as Syahmi, 31, said he was on his way to Paya Jaras when he noticed an aircraft tilting but soon heard a loud bang.

Eyewitness Syahmi, 31, conveyed his horror at seeing the aircraft tilt before hearing a deafening explosion.
“At that time, I was driving a car to deliver goods and at first, I thought the factory was on fire after hearing a bang.
Originally suspecting a factory fire, the grim reality became evident upon arriving at the scene, where he saw the plane in ruins and witnessed a person engulfed in flames.
Flight Radar data indicates that the plane departed from Langkawi International Airport at 2:08 pm. Its last known position was close to Subang Jaya at 2:49 pm, with a speed of 180 mph.
A Facebook video has provided further context to the incident, revealing the aftermath of the crash, with particular focus on a burning motorcycle, indicating the likely fate of the biker.
