Workers’ Party MP Faisal Manap hospitalised in ICU for cardiac condition but said to be conscious
Faisal Manap, Aljunied GRC’s Workers’ Party vice-chairman, was admitted to the ICU for a cardiac condition, leaving the party’s representation in Aljunied GRC down to three following Leon Perera’s recent resignation.
SINGAPORE: Mr Faisal Manap, the vice-chairman of the Workers’ Party and the Member of Parliament (MP) for Aljunied Group Representation Constituency (GRC), has been hospitalized due to a cardiac condition.
The Workers’ Party shared the news on Tuesday via a Facebook post, following his admission on Monday night (July 24).
The post stated that Mr. Faisal’s condition is stable, and he is currently receiving care in the Intensive Care Unit. “Mr Faisal is conscious,” the party added, providing some reassurance about his status.
Mr Faisal’s family acknowledged the public’s concern in these challenging times. They requested privacy for him to focus on his recovery without additional stress. The party reassured constituents that despite Mr. Faisal’s absence, the responsibilities of his role would be taken up by other Aljunied GRC MPs and party members.
Mr Faisal’s hospitalization follows the recent resignation of Leon Perera, another representative of Aljunied GRC, who stepped down last Wednesday over an extramarital affair. The group is now down to three members – Workers’ Party Secretary-General Pritam Singh, Sylvia Lim, and Gerald Giam, who will ensure the continuity of service in the constituency during this period.
Many members of the public have posted on the party’s post to wish Mr Faisal a swift and full recovery.
