SINGAPORE — An incident occurred at a construction site in Tanjong Pagar on Thursday afternoon, June 15, 2023, when part of a building structure collapsed, leaving one worker unaccounted for.

The structure, part of the Fuji Xerox Towers, adjacent to the M Hotel, was in the process of being demolished when the collapse occurred at approximately 2 p.m. local time.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) was promptly alerted about the incident. SCDF officers from the 1st SCDF Division and Marina Bay Fire Station, along with rescuers from the elite Disaster Assistance and Rescue Team (DART), rushed to the scene.

They are currently conducting search and rescue operations to locate the missing worker. A search area, approximately 20 meters by 10 meters, has been established around the collapsed structure.

To aid in their operations, the SCDF has deployed two of their search canines to help locate the missing worker in the rubble.

Investigations into the cause of the incident are currently underway by SCDF personnel present at the scene.

According to Straits Times, a representative from Aik Sun Demolition and Engineering which is managing the site, said no one was injured, adding that it needed time to ascertain the cause of the structural collapse.
