SELANGOR, MALAYSIA — A 64-year-old Singaporean woman sustained minor injuries after falling on the road when her necklace was snatched by a robber in Taman Sri Batu Caves, Batu Caves on Tuesday (18 Apr) morning.

A 39-second video clip of the incident went viral on TikTok, showing the victim walking with her husband on the roadside outside a premise.

A motorcyclist can be seen suspiciously following the couple, then speeding up and crossing the victim on her right-hand side, attempting to snatch her belongings.

The victim fell to the ground as the cyclist escaped, leaving the husband to assist her in getting up.

Suspect attempted to snatch the victim’s necklace but failed

The same day, Gombak District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Zainal Mohamed Mohamed issued a statement confirming the robbery case.

He stated that the incident took place at Jalan SBC 1, Taman Sri Batu Caves around 10.45 in the morning.

According to the preliminary investigation, the suspect attempted to snatch the victim’s necklace but failed.

The victim’s chain broke and fell onto the road, prompting the suspect to flee the scene.

“The victim suffered minor injuries to her knee and right hand. Efforts to track down the suspect are still ongoing, ” said the police chief.

The case is being investigated under Section 393 of the Penal Code.
