SINGAPORE —  Only God will know how a fluffy cat can travel from Geylang and get stranded around Marina Coastal Expressway (MCE).

Only if the fluffy could speak, many would want to know how the cat made the journey of nearly 9km away from its comfy home.

Yesterday (18 Janu), a TikToker with the user name @osrastays shared this bizarre experience in a video clip, describing how friends and family members were mobilized to search for the cat and ended up discovering their pet inside the bushes of the divider of the MCE.

“Tofu went missing. Thankfully for AirTag, it detected Tofu around Marina Coastal Expressway, ” she wrote in the TikTok clip and had suspected that someone could have taken Tofu away and thrown the AirTag collar at the place.

@osrastays opened the AirTag App to locate the cat. According to the description on the Apple website, it is designed for users convenient to locate their missing device, by sending out a secure Bluetooth signal that can be detected by nearby devices.

The TikToker said at 11.30 am that day, the Airtag later detected Tofu having moved to a nearby carpark, “the person who took Tofu must have moved around.”

But after a mere hour, the Airtag indicated that Tofu moved back to the expressway.

“This moment it was a little bit weird… Why would this person who took Tofu come back to the expressway?”

Friends and family of the TikToker had been searching high and low around Marina for the source of the AirTag signal, but with no success.

At that moment, they believed that the person must have thrown the cat’s Airtag to the bushes of the divider in the middle of MCE.

Suveen, one of the search party members, parked the car along the road shoulder of the MCE.

“It was very dangerous, but Suveen said maybe Tofu was really there… and we all didn’t give up, ” @osrastays added that the App shows they are close to the signal and “AirTag beeped like crazy” when they near the bushes.

Her husband went into the bush, and their beloved cat Tofu was finally discovered and rescued.

But just how did Tofu the cat end up at MCE while he stayed at Geylang?

The road distance between Geylang Serai Market and Food Centre and Marina South Pier is approximately 8.8km. A straight line is out of the question due to the roads and buildings in between.

Probably hitch-hiked on a vehicle and escaped

@osrastays suspected that Tofu might have hitch-hiked in a vehicle, tried to escape, and ended up along the expressway.

“We were thinking maybe he got into a lorry or tried to escape and went all the way here.”

Anyway, now that Tofu has returned to his owner, the TikToker has no hesitation to share how much she and her family love this adorable and yet naughty pet cat.

Dennis Tan voices support for decarbonisation efforts in transportation and petrochemical sectors

During the parliamentary debate over President Halimah Yacob’s address at the opening of the second session of parliament, Workers’ MP Dennis Tan addressed various transportation and environmental issues, including the soaring Certificate of Entitlement (COE) premiums, the adoption of cleaner energy vehicles, the electrification of logistics vehicles, and the decarbonisation of the harbour craft fleet. He also called for updates on Singapore’s petrochemical sector transformation and the retention and retraining of workers in the sector.

Minister pulled off two head scratchers and one deflection

Opinion piece by Augustine Low on Minister Edwin Tong’s response to the proposal of an English test for citizenship in Singapore and his comments on high rental at Geylang Serai Ramadan bazaar. His statement that a significant proportion of Singaporeans throughout history have not been able to speak English well and his example of his 96-year-old grandmother not being able to pass the test are considered irrelevant and deflections from the issue. Additionally, his response to the issue of high rental rates for trade fairs and bazaars has been criticized as a deflection rather than addressing the problem.
