On Thursday (24 Jun), Secretary-General of Singapore Democratic Party (SDP) Dr Chee Soon Juan said in a Facebook post that he has invited over several elderly cleaners working at Rochester Mall for lunch at his soon-to-be opened café, Orange & Teal.

Dr Chee noted that these elderly workers deserve a nice treat every now and then, adding that they were served some of the café’s main dishes – Creole Jambalaya, Poulet Roti, and Succotash.

He hosted the cleaners ahead of the café’s grand opening, which is happening tomorrow (25 Jun) at 11am.

“Had some honoured guests over for lunch a little while ago – the cleaning aunties and uncles at Rochester Mall. Served them a mixed platter of some of our Mains – Creole Jambalaya, Poulet Roti and Succotash,” Dr Chee wrote.

He added, “Hope to do this more often in the future with our elderly workers all over the island. They deserve a nice treat every now and then. Now back to preparing for the big day tomorrow.”

Earlier on Monday (21 Jun), Dr Chee announced that he and his wife, Dr Huan Chih-Mei, will be opening a new café called Orange & Teal at Rochester Mall in Buona Vista.

He explained that he has been working on opening this café for the last few months, and it will officially open its doors for guests this Friday.

As to why the couple decided to open a café, Dr Chee said that it is a place “where Singaporeans come together to not just have a great meal or have that heart warming cuppa”, but also a place for them to come together with their loved ones and “get to know each other all over again”.

In today’s Facebook post, he also revealed the opening hours of Orange & Teal, which can be viewed below:

  • Monday -Thursday: 11am – 9pm
  • Friday: 11am – 10pm
  • Saturday: 10am – 10pm
  • Sunday: 10 am – 9pm

Given that the pandemic is ongoing, Dr Chee also urged everyone who is going to visit the café to observe COVID-19 rules.

“Help us observe Covid rules when you’re here, please. Let’s do everything we can to keep safe so that we can open up the cafe to more folks soon. See you all tomorrow!” he remarked.
