Singapore’s former Manpower Minister Lim Swee Say has been appointed as Singapore Telecommunications (Singtel) non-executive and independent director of the board effective today (1 June).

This was announced by the telco company itself earlier today.

Singtel also said that Mr Lim will be attending training on the roles and responsibilities of a director of a listed issuer as prescribed by the Singapore Exchange.

Mr Lim was the country’s Minister of Manpower from 2015 to 2018. Before that, the 66-year-old ex-politician was a minister in the Prime Minister’s Office as well as the secretary-general for the National Trades Union Congress (NTUC) from 2007 until 2015.

He first entered politics in 1997 and served as a Member of Parliament until 2020.

Currently, Mr Lim holds various positions such as NTUC trustee and chairman of the NTUC Administration and Research Unit’s board of trustees. Additionally, he is also the deputy chairman of the Singapore Labour Foundation.

Shares of Singtel went up by two cents, or 0.8 per cent, at S$2.43 as at 3pm today.
