Wildlife rescue group Animal Concerns Research and Education Society (ACRES) on Thursday (20 May) reported that a civet carcass was found dead with a dart lodged in its body, urging the authorities to ban the sale of blow darts in Singapore.

The dead civet was discovered by a resident in Kembangan, namely Martin Yeoh, who found it in the driveway of his residence on Thursday morning, according to CNA’s report.

In a Facebook post, ACRES said the blow dart found on the civet has “a thicker steel shaft” which can cause “serious injuries” to both animals and humans.

“Needless to say that, human abuse often begins with abuse of the voiceless animals,” it wrote.

The wildlife group had also received several cases of pigeons found with blow darts in their bodies and eyes since January this year. These cases took place at Jurong West, Tampines bus interchange and Tampines Street 21.

“With no further leads to these investigations, we had appealed to all of you for information on anyone using these blow darts,” it said.

According to ACRES, the group has also made an appeal to the police, in 2020 and in March this year, to look into the matter urgently and ban the sale of blow darts in Singapore.

“ACRES does not see a need for sale of such blow darts and even blow pipes in Singapore, which are easily available online on Shopee, Wish, Lazada, Carousell and more,” it added.
