It was earlier reported that India’s COVID-19 outbreak is now the world’s worst.

India reported 145,384 new coronavirus cases on Saturday (10 Apr), the fifth time last week that it hit a new daily infection record. In the past one month, India’s COVID-19 cases have been climbing steeply non-stop, according to data compiled by Johns Hopkins University.

India’s COVID-19 outbreak is now the fastest-growing in the world as it struggles with widespread vaccine shortages and a low vaccination rate.

Its number of daily COVID-19 cases has now ranked first in the world, surpassing previous frontrunners Brazil and U.S.

Deaths in India have also gradually climbed in recent weeks. Hospitals are reported to be overflowing with sick patients and running low on oxygen. India’s vaccination rate is currently lagging behind other countries with severe coronavirus outbreaks like Mexico and Brazil.
