The Workers’ Party (WP) Member of Parliament (MP) for Sengkang GRC Jamus Lim has nominated a long-time supporter of WP to formally be a member of the alternative party.

Assoc Prof Lim took to his Facebook on Wednesday (10 Jan) to break the news, expressing that it was an honour and privilege to have put forward Mr Lam’s name in the application for membership.

“Today, I had the enormous honor (and privilege) to nominate a long-time supporter, Mr Lam, to formally be a member of the #workersparty,” he wrote.

According to Assoc Prof Lim, the nomination was seconded by the party’s secretary-general, Pritam Singh.

Mr Lam, a long-time Punggol East resident, is said to have been part of the WP’s journey for many years. He has been a volunteer since former WP MP Lee Li Lian’s time.

Ms Lee served as the MP for Punggol East SMC from 2013 to 2015.

In his Facebook post, Assoc Prof Lim recounted the first time he met Mr Lam, which was more than two years ago when both of them were distributing flyers and greeting residents during a walkabout around Sengkang GRC neighbourhoods.

“Health issues had led Mr Lam to retreat from volunteering efforts of late, but I will never forget the passion, earnestness, and dedication that Mr Lam demonstrated back then,” he continued.

Assoc Prof Lim went on to say that everyone contributes to causes they believe in via their own individual capacities, adding that he is lucky to have been able to serve as an elected representative.

“Others dedicate weeknights and weekends and are essential cogs in the overall party machinery.

“And yet others tirelessly volunteer, often behind the scenes, but continue to do so with little promise of reward, other than the modest recognition of party membership,” he concluded.
