In anticipation of the announcement of Budget 2021 next Tuesday (16 Feb), two community organisations have been collecting recommendations from different change-makers in Singapore to find out how they think “Budget 2021 can adequately support the evolving needs of low-income communities”.

Some of the key change-makers that A Good Space (AGS) and CAPE (Community for Advocacy & Political Education) have asked for recommendations from include AWARE Singapore, Disabled People’s Association Singapore, Engineering Good, Sayoni, SG Assist, Transient Workers Count Too (TWC2), and more.

In a Facebook post, AGS – a group that engages Singaporeans and various stakeholders to address social issues – also revealed that regular Singaporeans are also given the opportunity to vote on these recommendations and express their thoughts via a poll.

If that’s not all, they can also offer their own suggestions for others to vote on.

“We invite Singaporeans from all walks of life to come vote on these recommendations and tell us what you think! Please help us spread the word far and wide so we can hear from more of our fellow citizens,” it wrote.

The insights from the poll will then be shared in a public event with a group of changemakers, journalists, regular citizens as well as Parliamentarians in a public event set to take place on the 18 Feb, in order for them to continue to advocate for low-income communities.

The insights from this poll will be discussed at The Ground Speaks: Budget Conversations 2021 — an open virtual event — with a group of changemakers, journalists, ordinary citizens and parliamentarians such as Leader of the Opposition Pritam Singh, as well as Louis Ng Kok Kwang and Shahira Abdullah on 18th Feb at 7.30pm.

This will take place before the Budget and Committee of Supply debates.

Anthea Ong, former NMP and Chairperson of A Good Space, will be moderating the conversation, AGS said.

Those who are interested in attending the event can do so by clicking this link to register, as seats are limited.
