As of Sunday noon (31 Jan), the Ministry of Health (MOH) has confirmed an additional 29 cases of COVID-19 infection in Singapore.
This brings the total number of infection cases to 59,536.
All new cases today are asymptomatic and were detected from screening and surveillance.
All of the new cases are imported cases, who had been placed on Stay-Home Notice upon arrival in Singapore.
Earlier on Saturday (30 Jan), Singapore recorded the highest number of imported cases with 55 new imported cases.
There were also three new community cases yesterday.
Amongst the 29 imported cases, 1 (Case 59846) is a Singaporean and 3 (Cases 59825, 59829 and 59830) are Singapore Permanent Residents who returned from India and the UK.
1 (Case 59849) is a Dependant’s Pass holder who arrived from Nigeria.
1 (Case 59854) is a Long-Term Visit Pass holder who arrived from Nigeria.
1 (Case 59844) is a Student’s Pass holder who arrived from India.
4 (Cases 59824, 59831, 59832 and 59845) are Work Pass holders who arrived from India, Myanmar, Pakistan and the UAE.
13 are Work Permit holders who arrived from Bangladesh, India, Indonesia and Myanmar, of whom 6 (Cases 59821, 59823, 59827, 59828, 59841 and 59842) are foreign domestic workers.
5 (Cases 59834, 59835, 59836, 59838 and 59840) are Short-Term Visit Pass holders. Case 59834 arrived from India to study in Singapore. Cases 59835, 59836 and 59838 arrived from India, Myanmar and Indonesia respectively to visit their family members who are Singaporeans or Singapore Permanent Residents. Case 59840 arrived from the Philippines for her upcoming marriage to her Singaporean fiancé.
Case 59825 is a 36 year-old male Singapore Permanent Resident who returned from a trip to India on 19 December 2020 and served SHN at a dedicated facility until 2 January 2021. His swab done on 31 December during SHN was negative for COVID-19. He is asymptomatic, and was detected when he took a COVID-19 pre-departure test on 29 January in preparation for another trip to India.
His test result came back positive the next day, and he was conveyed to the National Centre for Infectious Diseases. His Ct value was very high, which is indicative of a low viral load, and his serology test result has also come back positive. Given that these indicate likely past infection, the authority have classified the case as imported based on his travel history. He is likely to be shedding minute fragments of the virus RNA, which are no longer transmissible and infective to others.
Update on condition of confirmed cases
32 more cases of COVID-19 infection have been discharged from hospitals or community isolation facilities. In all, 59,228 have fully recovered from the infection and have been discharged from hospitals or community care facilities.
There are currently 44 confirmed cases who are still in hospital. Of these, most are stable or improving, and none is in the intensive care unit. 235 are isolated and cared for at community facilities. These are those who have mild symptoms, or are clinically well but still test positive for COVID-19.
29 have passed away from complications due to COVID-19 infection.
