“I am deeply sorry”, said Malaysian artist Choo Hao Ren in an apology video on Tuesday (26 Jan) in response to backlashes from his recent music video.

The ‘White Doll‘ music video was meant to promote Snow Bebe whitening product, but Malaysian netizens were not keen on the idea of the main actress in the music video being portrayed with a tanned-skin and was bullied because of it.

“I hope to have your kind understanding that my original intention is to imply on the effects on sunburned skin”, Choo explained.

The music video has since been taken down, though there have been many copies of it downloaded and shared across social media.

The music video shows a very tanned-skin girl, portrayed by influencer Teng Qiu Wen, being bullied because of her skin tone. She was then given Snow Bebe whitening products by a secret admirer, portrayed by Choo himself.

After using the whitening products, she emerges with animated sparkles as her classmates were amazed by her transformation.

Even with the apology video and deletion of the music video, netizens were not satisfied with the Malaysian singer as they took to his Facebook page and YouTube channel (apology videomusic video) to lambast Choo for the damage that has already been inflicted.

Meanwhile, D’Glivz, the Malaysian company behind the whitening product Snow Bebe that was featured in the music video, took to its Instagram on Monday (25 Jan) to “sincerely apologize” to those who had felt “uncomfortable or misunderstood” by the music video.

“We have absolutely no intention to offend anyone,” the company added.
