Malaysian woman fell victim to snatch theft; suspect nabbed within 8 hours of crime

A 51-year-old Malaysian woman was caught on video falling victim to a snatch theft earlier on Tuesday morning (19 Jan).

The incident took place at Eco Sanctuary, Telok Panglima Garang in Selangor at around 8.05am.

A CCTV footage, which was gone viral, shows the woman alighting from her car and subsequently being chased by a motorcyclist armed with a weapon.

The motorcyclist fled the scene after snatching her bag, leaving her lying on the ground. Passers-by spotted her, and rushed to her aid.

The woman lodged a police report at the Telok Panglima Garang police station right after the incident

Suspect apprehended by the police within 8 hours of the crime

According to The Star, a 25-year-old man was detained in connection with the crime.

Acting on a tip-off and intelligence work, a team from Selangor CID Serious Crimes division (D9) managed to track down the suspect, said Acting Selangor Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Datuk Arjunaidi Mohamed.

“The suspect was apprehended at about 4pm in Shah Alam, less than 24 hours after the incident occurred,” he added.

The police also seized several items believed to have belonged to the woman.

DCP Arjunaidi thanked members of the public for their cooperation, which led to the apprehension of the suspect.

“We hope such cooperation can continue in the future,” he remarked.
