A whopping 72.6 per cent of Singaporeans are spending New Year’s Eve at home — whether alone or with close family, according to results from a survey by discount code e-commerce platform Picodi.
This is an increase of 13.2 per cent more than last year. In 2019, 59.4 per cent of the respondents stayed at home with family.
The survey, conducted earlier this month, also found that only 7.2 per cent of the respondents will celebrate at house parties, with 2.9 per cent organising a house party themselves and 4.3 per cent going to someone else’s house party.
Last year, Picodi found that house parties were a lot more popular, with 14.4 per cent of the people surveyed having spent New Year’s Eve in this way.
5.8 per cent of respondents are planning on going to an outdoor event while 4.3 per cent are attending an organised party at a restaurant if both events are not bound by pandemic restrictions.
Only 10.1 per cent of respondents said they are going abroad for New Year’s Eve.
78.3 per cent of Malaysians, on the other hand, will spend New Year’s Eve at home — alone or with their closest relatives. This is a 15 per cent increase from last year — in 2019, 63.3 per cent of the respondents stayed at home with family.
15 per cent of the respondents will celebrate New Year’s Eve at house parties this year, with 5 per cent organising a house party themselves and 10 per cent going to someone else’s house party.
Last year, house parties were more popular – 22 per cent of the people surveyed spent New Year’s Eve in this way.
3.3 per cent are planning on going to an organised party at a restaurant while 1.7 are planning to attend an outdoor event.
A small percentage of 1.7 per cent of respondents are planning to leave the country for New Year’s Eve.
88 per cent of respondents in the Philippines said that they are going to spend New Year’s Eve at home — alone or with their closest relatives.
It is a 26 per cent increase more than last year — in 2019, 62 per cent of the respondents stayed at home with family.
9.1 per cent of the respondents will celebrate at house parties, with 6.5 per cent organising a house party themselves and 2.6 per cent going to someone else’s house party.

Only 0.6 per cent of respondents in the Philippines are planning to leave the country for New Year’s Eve.
