Come 27 December, the Workers’ Party will decide on which members will make up its next central executive committee (CEC).
The Straits Times reported on Monday (14 December) that members of the party will be electing its new secretary-general and chairman for the next two years as well as 12 other members of the CEC.
In the last internal election in 2018, Leader of the Opposition Pritam Singh was elected as the party’s secretary-general with no objections.
His immediate predecessor Low Thia Khiang held the post for nearly two decades — 17 years — prior to that.
Currently, Mr Singh’s fellow Aljunied GRC Member of Parliament Sylvia Lim holds the chairman position in WP.
Their fellow Aljunied GRC MPs Muhamad Faisal bin Abdul Manap is the party’s vice-chair while Gerald Giam is the treasurer.
New Hougang SMC MP Dennis Tan is WP’s organising secretary. Mr Tan succeeded previous Hougang MP Png Eng Huat, who served the constituency for two terms.
