A photo of a signage with a ‘beware of ghost’ icon – believed to be taken at a closed cemetery – has been circulating on social media recently, leaving many people in bewilderment on whether the signage is true or fake.

As seen in the viral photo, one of the hazard icons seemingly portrays a ghost-like figure of a long-haired woman in a long dress.

In a Facebook post on Tuesday (1 Dec), the National Environment Agency (NEA) said that it is aware that a photo of a signage with a ‘beware of ghost’ icon – presumably taken at a closed cemetery – has been circulating on social media.

However, NEA clarified that the signage is “doctored”.

It even showed how the original signage actually looks like, with a side-by-side comparison with the doctored version.

The agency went on to urge members of the public not to forward or circulate any messages or posts containing the doctored signage if they receive such messages.

“If you are not sure, don’t share! #Boo #HalloweenIsOver #HelloDecember,” it added.

Instead of worrying about any paranormal presence, NEA noted that those visiting the cemeteries should be looking out for “real hazards”, such as tree branches, uneven ground, insects, and snakes.

The agency also suggested that visitors wear covered shoes when walking within the cemetery compound.
