The Changi Airport Group announced on its Facebook page on Tuesday (17 November) that it will be launching a series of “unique experiences and activities” this year-end, in which one of experience include “glamping” at Jewel Changi Airport.
“From glamping under the stars with a majestic view of the HSBC Rain Vortex, educational and fun family camps in Changi Experience Studio, to hands-on workshops and behind-the-scenes airport experiences, there’s something for everyone!” it wrote on its post.
Attaching the photo of one of its attraction – “Glamping in the Clouds”, the Group mentioned that for the first time ever, the guest can experience a “magical Glampcation night under the stars in cool comfort and wake up to the refreshing view of the majestic HSBC Rain Vortex.”
“In the day, the glamp tents are converted for Glampinics in a cool and idyllic garden setting,” it added.
As seen in the Changi Airport website, the guests can choose the package between “Glampcation in the Clouds” and “Glampcation at Shiseido Forest Valley” or just a “glampicnic” during the day.
The guests who choose “Glampcation in the Clouds” – located at Cloud9 Piazza – will be provided one queen-sized bed and one single bed, sleeping pillows, cushion pillows, blankets, toiletries, air cooler, cooler box with ice as well as 75-minute use of shower facilities at Changi Lounge.
While for “Glampcation at Shiseido Forest Valley” which are located at Forest Valley, the guests will wake up surrounded by lush greenery and will be entitled for amnesties such as one or two queen sized beds, blanket, pillows and cushions, toiletries, fan, Jewel scented perfume, portable charger, festive welcome basket as well as 60-minute use of shower facilities at YotelAIR before check-in.
Both glampcation packages also include the exclusive perks such as Changi Experience Studio tickets or Manulife Sky Nets tickets, Canopy Park tickets and free parking.
As for the pricing, the glampcation each costs S$320 per night from Mondays to Thursdays and costs S$360 per night for Fridays to Sundays, public holidays and the eve of public holidays.
For those who would prefer glamping during the daytime, the Changi Airport also rolled out “Glampicnic in the Clouds” where the guests can bring over their own picnic spread or order from Changi Eats and relax in the air-conditioned glamp tents.
There will be two three hours slots per day for the glampicnic, which are 11.15am to 2.15pm and 3.00pm to 6.00pm, with provided amenities such as table setting, table cloth, disposable plate, cutlery and wine glasses, cushion seats, air cooler and cooler box with ice.
The glampicnic costs S$160 per slot from Mondays to Thursdays and costs S$180 per slot for Fridays to Sundays, public holidays and the eve of public holidays.
While some netizens lauded Changi Airport for its creative, there was a bunch of netizens who penned their thought on the Facebook page of Mothership.sg and Channel News Asia, expressing that the prices of glampcation in the airport are too expensive, because with the price, they “can get a proper room with ensuite bath in 5-star hotels” and “don’t have to fight for slot to bath at their lounge too”.
A couple of netizens also said that it is better to sleep at the comfort of their homes and beds with air-conditioned on. “S$320 is around 3 months of electricity bill for my house. Stay house better.”
Instead of “splurging on such fancy experience”, a few netizens said that they would prefer to donate the money to the people-in-need such as the homeless people who are living in real tents on beaches and parks.
Expressing ridicule at the idea of glampcation, other netizens felt that “how is sleeping on a concrete airport floor with other random people considered a holiday?”
They said that for such camping, it is better to go close to nature, and people will go to hotel if they want to have a staycation.
A few netizens also suggested that the airport now is a high risk area of COVID-19 due to the resume of ‘travel bubble’, hence it is better to stay away from Changi Airport now.
