Over the course of last weekend, Progress Singapore Party (PSP) chief Dr Tan Cheng Bock and his team spent some time mingling with few of the cleaners at Mei Ling Market & Food Centre in Queenstown.

“It was interesting hearing from them about the work they do and the challenges they face,” said Dr Tan in a Facebook post on Thursday (5 Nov).

He asserted that cleaners are an “indispensable part” of the community, adding that hawker centres would be “impossible to manage” without them.

Dr Tan shared that he and his PSP team frequently visit hawker centres and coffee shops to get to know the people better.

The alternative party chief went on to encourage members of the public “not to overlook the aunties and uncles who keep the place running”.

“They too deserve respect and dignity,” he stressed.

Dr Tan concluded his post by urging fellow Singaporeans to continue building a compassionate society for the country and its people.
