A recent photograph of migrant workers being transported via a padlocked lorry was uploaded by lawyer Jeannette Chong-Aruldoss to her Facebook account.
Ms Chong-Aruldoss took the photo last Friday (3 October) at 1.55 pm on Rochor Road.
Wondering why the lorry was padlocked, Ms Chong-Aruldoss said: “This lorry carrying passengers inside caught my eye. I won’t find fault with its cage-like appearance, but then I saw that it was padlocked from the outside.”
“If it were me, I would never want to be inside a vehicle or anywhere which has been padlocked from the outside,” she wrote.
Journalist Kirsten Han commented that padlocking such a vehicle from the outside with passengers inside is “incredibly dangerous”, as the passengers would not be able to get out of the truck themselves in the event of an accident.
Given that the lorry does not appear to be a law enforcement vehicle, it is puzzling as to why a padlock was required in the first place.
