The Singapore Police Force (SPF) has issued a stern warning to the Workers’ Party (WP) Member of Parliament (MP) for Sengkang GRC Raeesah Khan with regard to comments made by her on social media.

“The police have completed their investigations and in consultation with the Attorney-General’s Chambers, have issued a stern warning to Ms Raeesah Khan for the offence of promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion or race,” said SPF in a statement on Thursday (17 Sep).

The warning was issued for two social media posts made by Ms Khan on 2 February 2018 and 17 May 2020.

The warning also entailed an additional offence of contempt by scandalising the court for the first post she made in 2018.

Earlier in July, two police reports were lodged against Ms Khan over comments she allegedly made on social media.

In a statement by the SPF on 5 July, Ms Khan allegedly commented that Singapore law enforcement authorities discriminated against citizens, and that compared to other groups, rich Chinese and white people were treated differently under the law.

“In the context of a news article on the City Harvest Church ruling, Raeesah Khan allegedly commented that Singapore jailed minorities mercilessly, harassed mosque leaders but let corrupt church leaders who stole S$50 million walk free, and questioned who had been paid,” said SPF.
