As of Saturday noon (22 Aug), the Ministry of Health (MOH) has confirmed an additional 50 cases of COVID-19 infection in Singapore.
This brings the total number of infection cases to 56,266.
There are two cases in the community, both of whom are Singaporeans.
In addition, there are five imported cases, all of whom had all been placed on Stay-Home Notice upon arrival in Singapore.
Of the new cases, 94% are imported or linked to known cases/ clusters, while the rest are pending contact tracing.
MOH has completed its screening and testing of all staff in the public bus industry who work at depots and interchanges. This is a precautionary measure after we detected some cases at Bukit Panjang Integrated Transport Hub. In all, more than 14,800 staff and close contacts of the cases had been tested using the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test between 23 July and 15 August and all have tested negative, except 10 which have been announced earlier.
One new cluster identified
- Two of the newly confirmed cases are linked to 55 previous cases to form a new cluster at Sungei Tengah Lodge (500 Old Choa Chu Kang Road).
Update on condition of confirmed cases
269 more cases of COVID-19 infection have been discharged from hospitals or community isolation facilities. In all, 53,920 have fully recovered from the infection and have been discharged from hospitals or community care facilities.
There are currently 81 confirmed cases who are still in the hospital. Of these, most are stable or improving, and none is in the intensive care unit. 2,238 are isolated and cared for at community facilities. These are those who have mild symptoms or are clinically well but still test positive for COVID-19.
27 have passed away from complications due to COVID-19 infection.
