204 tablets, believed to be ‘Ecstasy’, were discovered at Parcel Post Section on 4 August.
In Facebook post on Friday (14 Aug), the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) stated that its officer noticed anomalies in the x-ray images of an imported postal package declared as “air fix model”. During the physical inspection, officers peeled off multiple layers of plastic wrap, until they uncovered the suspected ‘Ecstasy’ tablets.
The case was then referred to the Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB). A 29-year-old Singaporean male was subsequently arrested for suspected drug-related offences.
Investigations are ongoing.
The ICA asserted that this method of concealment is a cause for concern as similar methods may be used by people with ill intent to smuggle security items into Singapore, adding that it will continue to conduct security checks on passengers, goods, and vehicles to safeguard Singapore’s security.
