Newly-elected Member of Parliament (MP) for Sengkang GRC Jamus Lim shared on Facebook last Friday (7 Aug) that he was invited by Speaker of Parliament Tan Chuan-Jin to lunch at Parliament House with his newly-elected fellow MPs from the Workers’ Party (WP).
“The new MPs-elect were invited by House Speaker Tan Chuan-Jin to lunch at Parliament House, after which we went on a tour of the place,” he wrote in the post.
Prof Lim, who is an associate economics professor at Essec Business School, also shared a photo of himself beside Mr Tan’s seat, noting that the House Speaker’s seat has a mini sound speaker embedded in it.
“I learned that the Speaker actually has a mini soundspeaker embedded in the seat (behind the bulbous metal grate with a rook logo; the Speaker’s speaker?)—all the better to hear our passionate arguments when parliament is in session, I guess!” he added.
In the recent General Election, Prof Lim was voted in with three other WP members – He Ting Ru, Louis Chua, and Raeesah Khan – in a surprising win for the WP team that contested in the newly-carved Sengkang GRC.
The WP member was also elected in the 64th Economic Society of Singapore’s (ESS) Council on 23 July.
