The National Youth Council (NYC) and *SCAPE Co. Ltd are collaborating with Taobao to empower Singaporean youth and entrepreneurs with the opportunity to pursue their creative aspirations and careers.

The first-ever Taobao Maker Festival (TMF) collaborations in Singapore will provide exposure for local youth to showcase their works on a popular social commerce platform and highlight youth in their element as innovators and trailblazers.

Held from 9 to 13 August, this initiative marks Taobao’s inaugural efforts in collaborating with relevant organisations to reach out to the youth community in Singapore.

TMF, which used to be an offline showcase of some of the most interesting products and ideas on Taobao, will take on a fresh approach this year that combines a merchant road trip with an online exhibition supported by Taobao’s 3D avatar-based virtual world feature.

Taobao Merchant Collaborations with Singaporean Youth

The Singapore extension of the festival features two collaborations. An open call was held in Singapore last month for youth to submit their works to stand a chance to be selected to participate in either collaboration.

Shortlisted participants had the opportunity to work with Taobao Maker products or Taobao Makers to incorporate their own twist to showcase TMF products.

The final artistic creations will be featured on the Taobao platform and on various Taobao’s media channels from 10 August.

Smart Skateboard Showcase – Creating a product experience through innovation

During unprecedented times, leveraging on digital platforms is key to engaging youth. With innovation as a key pillar of TMF, the first collaboration involves a product demonstration of a patented smart skateboard from Taobao captured on a short film.

The interesting and captivating short film was produced by Brendon E from Fast Track Sg Pte Ltd, who is also a *SCAPE HubQuarters’ entrepreneur.

To create a unique product experience, Muhammad Kenny Bin Kamil, who represented Singapore in Youth Olympic Games, was invited to artfully navigate a patented smart Skateboard from Taobao at *SCAPE’s very own skateboard park.

Modern Qipao Photoshoot – Capturing culture and heritage

The second collaboration provides an opportunity for youth to use their skills and creativity to bring together the Chinese traditional culture and Singapore’s rich heritage.

Kassandra Lim, an award-winning fashion filmmaker, partnered a million-following Chinese qipao designer to conduct a photoshoot of the qipao designs modelled against the backdrop of renowned Singapore landmarks.
