NDP 2020 fireworks will be launched at 10 locations islandwide
On Singapore’s 55th National Day this Sunday (9 Aug), fireworks will be launched at ten locations islandwide as the finale of the National Day Parade (NDP) 2020 Evening Show at 8:20pm.
The organisers of this year’s NDP have advised the public to gather at the fireworks locations, noting that the fireworks will be made visible from many homes.
According to TODAY, the fireworks will be launched 15 to 62 storeys high into the sky, allowing the show to be seen from up to 8km away.
Military Expert 6 (ME6) Ben Tan, who is the chairman of the NDP fireworks committee, said that these ten locations were chosen to maximise the viewership of fireworks across Singapore. He went on to reveal that the organisers studied the terrain and environmental conditions “extensively”.
Here are the ten locations where the fireworks will be launched:
- Ang Mo Kio
- Bishan
- Buona Vista
- Jurong Lake Gardens
- Marina Reservoir
- Punggol
- Sembawang
- Tampines
- Woodlands
- Yew Tee
Two locations will be closed to the public, namely Lakeside Garden at Jurong Lake Gardens from 11am to 9pm and Marina Barrage from 4pm to 9pm.
It was also reported that safe-distancing officers will be dispatched islandwide to prevent crowds from forming.
Despite not allowing people to gather at the fireworks locations, the organisers advised those who choose to view the fireworks in public to comply with safe-distancing measures.
Apart from wearing face masks, maintaining a 1-metre distance from one another, hanging in groups of five or less, members of the public are discouraged from singing the national anthem and reciting the pledge aloud. The organisers stressed that this was enforced in order to reduce the risk of COVID-19 transmission in public spaces.
