MOH confirms 242 new cases of COVID-19 infection; Total tally at 54,797

As of Friday noon (7 Aug), the Ministry of Health (MOH) has an additional 242 cases of COVID-19 infection in Singapore, the vast majority of whom are Work Permit holders residing in foreign worker dormitories.

This brings the total number of infection cases to 54,797.

There is one case in the community, who is a Singaporean.

In addition, there are six imported cases who had been placed on Stay-Home Notice upon arrival in Singapore.

Of the new cases, 99% are linked to known clusters, while the rest are pending contact tracing.

Update on condition of confirmed cases

281 more cases of COVID-19 infection have been discharged from hospitals or community isolation facilities. In all, 48,312 have fully recovered from the infection and have been discharged from hospitals or community care facilities.

There are currently 124 confirmed cases who are still in the hospital. Of these, most are stable or improving, and none is in the intensive care unit. 6,334 are isolated and cared for at community facilities. These are those who have mild symptoms or are clinically well but still test positive for COVID-19.

27 have passed away from complications due to COVID-19 infection.
