To encourage greater youth participation in nation-building, the Workers’ Party Youth Wing (WPYW) is organising an essay competition for Singaporeans 40 years of age and under in conjunction with the upcoming National Day celebrations.
WPYW in a Facebook post on Tuesday (5 August) called upon Singaporean youths to put themselves in the shoes of a Member of Parliament or a Minister and to expound on “one future challenge that Singapore needs to address more seriously today”.
Entrants are also required to write — in not more than 1500 words, including any references, footnotes, tables, appendices, charts — on the necessary policy changes that “will help us get there” and on how they will utilise their “power in public office to do so”.
Cash prizes of up to S$500 and WP memorabilia are up for grabs for the top three entrants.
The deadline for submissions is on 31 August at 11.59 pm.
Those keen on taking part in the competition are required to fill in their particulars and to upload their essay exclusively in Microsoft Word (.docx) format through the relevant Google Docs form here.
