As of Wednesday noon (5 Aug), the Ministry of Health (MOH) has confirmed an additional 908 cases of COVID-19 infection in Singapore, the vast majority of whom are Work Permit holders residing in foreign worker dormitories.

This brings the total number of infection cases to 54,254.

According to the MOH, the vast majority of the new cases are dormitory residents who were tested during their isolation/quarantine period, even though they are asymptomatic. It noted that they are among the final batch of workers being cleared, adding that they come from dormitories with a relatively high prevalence of COVID-19.

Hence, the Ministry expects the daily case counts to be high for the coming days, before tapering down thereafter as the Inter-agency Taskforce completes the dormitory clearance.

There are four cases in the community, of whom three are Singaporeans/Permanent Residents and one is a Work Pass holder.

In addition, there are four imported cases who had been placed on Stay-Home Notice upon arrival in Singapore.

Of the new cases, 99% are linked to known clusters, while the rest are pending contact tracing.

No new clusters were identified.

Update on condition of confirmed cases

314 more cases of COVID-19 infection have been discharged from hospitals or community isolation facilities. In all, 47,768 have fully recovered from the infection and have been discharged from hospitals or community care facilities.

There are currently 126 confirmed cases who are still in the hospital. Of these, most are stable or improving, and 1 is in critical condition in the intensive care unit. 6,333 are isolated and cared for at community facilities. These are those who have mild symptoms or are clinically well but still test positive for COVID-19.

27 have passed away from complications due to COVID-19 infection.
