Earlier in July, eight men and two women were arrested for dangerous riding on personal mobility devices (PMDs) and power-assisted bicycles (PABs) travelling together with a motorcyclist along Sheares Avenue.
The suspects are aged between 16 and 25.
According to the police on Monday (3 Aug), they were alerted to a video showing a group of riders on PMDs and PABs travelling together with a motorcyclist along Sheares Avenue on 13 July.
Officers from the Traffic Police established the identities of the men and women involved in this case and arrested them between 17 and 20 July after the authorities carried out the investigations, as reported by TODAY.
Two PMDs, device parts of a PAB, and mobile phones were seized by the authorities.
It was reported that the police and the Land Transport Authority (LTA) were conducting investigations into offences of dangerous riding and riding a PMD on the road.
If these individuals are convicted of dangerous riding, they will face a jail term of 12 months or a fine up to S$5,000, or both.
Furthermore, if one was convicted of riding a PMD on a road, they will face a jail term of up to three months or a fine up to S$2,000, or both.
The police stated that both the Traffic Police and LTA will take “tough enforcement” against individuals who flout traffic rules and endanger other people’s safety.
“The Traffic Police and LTA will not hesitate to take tough enforcement action against road users and active mobility device users who choose to flout traffic rules and endanger the safety of others.”
The LTA posted about the arrest yesterday, emphasising that it is a “good thing” that no one got hurt in the incident.
