本月28日,我国总理李显龙透过视讯参加华盛顿智库大西洋理事会(Atlantic Council)举办的座谈会。

席间 ,主持人、凯雷投资集团联席执行董事长鲁宾斯坦(David Rubenstein)询问李显龙,为何新加坡部长的薪资,比起美国政务者相对来得高?

对此李显龙辩称,有竞争力的部长薪酬,乃是协助我国抵御贪腐问题的要素之一。

尽管这种“高薪养廉”做法仍有争议,不过李显龙强调这“适用于新加坡的体制”,“最好根据人的价值和贡献来支薪。”

他声称如果不这么做,反而会影响到公共服务的价值,或者人们会找办法从其他地方“得到补偿”、获取隐藏式的报酬等。

“或者出现“旋转门现象(revolving door,意指官员退休后转入企业、机构就职)”,你能够在离开(政坛)、退休后拿到某样东西,这回造成更大的问题。”

他表示过去新加坡都会遇到这类的官员,尽管他们都位居高职,但仍抵不住诱惑。政府也必须果断对他们采取行动,即便这类事件令人感到尴尬。
