总理坚称有竞争力部长薪酬 有助抵御贪腐问题
本月28日，我国总理李显龙透过视讯参加华盛顿智库大西洋理事会（Atlantic Council）举办的座谈会。
席间 ，主持人、凯雷投资集团联席执行董事长鲁宾斯坦（David Rubenstein）询问李显龙，为何新加坡部长的薪资，比起美国政务者相对来得高？
对此李显龙辩称，有竞争力的部长薪酬，乃是协助我国抵御贪腐问题的要素之一。
尽管这种“高薪养廉”做法仍有争议，不过李显龙强调这“适用于新加坡的体制”，“最好根据人的价值和贡献来支薪。”
他声称如果不这么做，反而会影响到公共服务的价值，或者人们会找办法从其他地方“得到补偿”、获取隐藏式的报酬等。
“或者出现“旋转门现象（revolving door，意指官员退休后转入企业、机构就职）”，你能够在离开（政坛）、退休后拿到某样东西，这回造成更大的问题。”
他表示过去新加坡都会遇到这类的官员，尽管他们都位居高职，但仍抵不住诱惑。政府也必须果断对他们采取行动，即便这类事件令人感到尴尬。
