It was reported in Straits Times that an 8-year-old American girl was among the two imported coronavirus patients announced by the Ministry of Health (MOH) yesterday (28 Jul). She is a Dependant’s Pass (DP) holder and had arrived from India earlier.

The other is an Indian national who holds a work pass (EP/SP). He had also arrived from India earlier. Both had been placed on 14-day stay-home notices upon arrival.

As of yesterday, the number of confirmed coronavirus cases had climbed to 51,197. A total of 185 patients remain in hospital, while 5,092 are recuperating in community facilities.

Number of imported cases trending upwards

Since the Phase 2 Re-opening in Singapore on 19 Jun, there had been a total of 107 imported coronavirus cases as of yesterday. The figures were tabulated from Annex C of the daily reports found on MOH website.

The number of imported cases has been trending upwards since Phase 2 Re-opening as more people are returning back to Singapore.

On Monday (27 Jul), 15 imported cases were reported, hitting a double-digit figure for the first time — a new high since Phase 2 Re-opening.

The people coming back to Singapore included:

  • Singapore Citizens
  • Permanent Residents
  • Dependant’s Pass holders
  • Employment Pass holders
  • S-Pass holders
  • Long-Term Visit Pass holders
  • Short-Term Visit Pass holders
  • Student Pass holders
  • Special Pass holders
  • Work Permit holders

Most of the imported cases since Phase 2 Re-opening came from people returning to Singapore from India and Philippines. There were 62 (58%) from India and 23 (21%) from the Philippines.

And among the people returning from India during this period, their breakdown is as follow:

As more people are returning back to Singapore from abroad in the coming weeks, it’s a matter of time when the record number of double-digit figure of 15 imported cases will be broken.
