After recording three new COVID-19 cases in Danang, Vietnam, the Government had decided to evacuate 80,000 people which mostly consists of local tourists from the central tourism hotspot. All three cases were residents were tested positive for the coronavirus during the past weekend, as reported by Reuters.
The evacuation will take at least four days with about 100 domestic flights operating daily from Danang to 11 other cities in Vietnam.
Vietnam is reported to be back on “high alert” after its Government confirmed the first community infection on Saturday, and it was also the first since April. Another three cases were reported on Sunday, and all of these cases occurred in or around Danang.
Currently, the total COVID-19 cases in Vietnam was recorded at 420 with no deaths.
Despite the nation is still closed to foreign tourism, domestic travellers took advantage of the discounted flights and packages to their local hotels and resorts.
Vietnam’s Ministry of Health revealed that the people who returned from Danang to other parts of the country would be required to complete a 14-day quarantine at home.
After the newly reported cases, the country’s Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc had ordered the police to step up a crackdown on illegal immigration.
Then, on Sunday, the police in Danang arrested a 42-year-old Chinese man who was reportedly the head of a criminal group that helps people to enter Vietnam from China illegally. However, the authorities have yet to link the new COVID-19 cases to illegal immigration.
Earlier today (27 July), the Vietnamese government released another statement, revealing that in Ha Giang province which borders China, the authorities had caught more than 1,500 people crossing into the border illegally since May.
Most of the people who were caught were Vietnamese, and they were put in quarantine.
