The new Cabinet was announced by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong on Saturday (25 July) 2.30pm and was livestreamed and telecasted to public. In the line up, PM Lee shuffled most of the former political appointment holders and introduced six new political appointment holders who were recently elected into Parliament in the General Election 2020.

ROTATION AND NEW APPOINTMENTS 

Grace Fu

The former Minister for Culture, Community and Youth will be appointed Minister for Sustainability and Environment. (renamed from the Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources will be renamed the Ministry of Sustainability and Environment).

Lawrence Wong

The former Minister for National Development will be appointed Minister for Education. He will remain Second Minister for Finance.

Masagos Zulkifli

He is appointed Minister for Social and Family Development and Second Minister for Health. He will also remain the Minister‐in-charge of Muslim Affairs and relinquish his appointment as Minister for the Environment and Water Resources.

Ong Ye Kung

The former Minister of Education will be appointed Minister for Transport. 

Desmond Lee

The former Minister for Social and Family Development will be appointed Minister for National Development. He will remain in the Ministry and be concurrently appointed as Minister‐in-charge of Social Services Integration.

Indranee Rajah

She will be appointed Second Minister for National Development. She will relinquish her role as Second Minister for Education but will retain her role as Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office and as Second Minister for Finance

PROMOTIONS

Maliki Osman

He will be promoted to full Minister and appointed Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office, Second Minister for Education and Second Minister for Foreign Affairs. 

He will relinquish his appointment as the Mayor of South East District.

Edwin Tong

He will be promoted to full Minister and appointed Minister for Culture, Community and Youth, and Second Minister for Law.

Zaqy Mohamad 

He wil be promoted to Senior Minister of State. He will remain at the Ministry of Manpower and take up an additional appointment at the Ministry of Defence.

Low Yen Ling 

She will be promoted to Minister of State, and take up new appointments at the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth, and at the Ministry of Trade and Industry. 

She moved from her positions at the Ministry of Manpower and Ministry of Education. She will also remain as Mayor of South West District.

Associate Professor Dr Muhammad Faishal Ibrahim 

He will be promoted to Minister of State, and take up new appointments at the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Ministry of National Development. He will relinquish his appointments at the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Social and Family Development.

Sun Xueling 

She will be promoted to Minister of State, and take up new appointments at the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Social and Family Development. 

She will relinquish her appointments at the Ministry of Home Affairs and Ministry of National Development.

OTHER POLITICAL APPOINTMENTS

Heng Swee Keat, the Deputy Prime Minister

He will take on an additional appointment as Coordinating Minister for Economic Policies. 

Amy Khor 

She will be Senior Minister of State in the Ministry of Transport, and continue in the Ministry of Sustainability and Environment. 

Sim Ann 

She will be appointed Senior Minister of State in the Ministry of National Development. 

She will also continue in the Ministry of Communications and Information but relinquish her appointment in the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth.

Chee Hong Tat 

He will be appointed Senior Minister of State in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Transport. He will relinquish his appointments in the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Trade and Industry;

Dr Janil Puthucheary 

He will be appointed Senior Minister of State in the Ministry of Health. He will continue in the Ministry of Communications and Information but relinquish his appointment in the Ministry of Transport.

Koh Poh Koon 

He will be appointed Senior Minister of State in the Ministry of Health. He will relinquish his appointment in the Ministry of Trade and Industry.

NEW POLITICAL OFFICE HOLDERS

Tan See Leng

The newly elected Member of Parliament for Marine Parade GRC, who comes from the private sector is appointed Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office, Second Minister for Manpower and Second Minister for Trade and Industry.

Gan Siow Huang

The newly elected MP for Marymount SMC, who was formerly from the military, will be appointed Minister of State in the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Manpower. 

Alvin Tan

The newly elected MP for Tanjong Pagar GRC who had previously worked in Facebook, will be appointed Minister of State in the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth and the Ministry of Trade and Industry, with effect from 1 Sept. 

Desmond Tan Kok Ming

The newly elected MP for Pasir-Ris Punggol GRC will be appointed Minister of State in the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Ministry of Sustainability and Environment.

Tan Kiat How

The newly elected MP for East Coast GRC will be appointed Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office and the Ministry of National Development. He will also be Chairman of REACH. 

Eric Chua Swee Leong 

The newly-elected MP for Tanjong Pagar GRC will be appointed Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth, and the Ministry of Social and Family Development. 

Mdm Rahayu Mahzam

The former backbencher MP for Jurong GRC will be appointed Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of Health, with effect from 1 Sept.

MAYORS

  1. Alex Yam will be appointed Mayor for North West District.
  2. Mohd Fahmi Aliman will be appointed Mayor for South West District.


The Swearing‐in Ceremony for the Cabinet and other office holders will take place on 27 July, 7pm at the Istana and Parliament House.
