LHH Vegetable Pte Ltd was fined a total of $3,600 by the Court on Wednesday (15 July) for illegally importing fresh vegetables and processed food.

In a press release, Singapore Food Agency (SFA) stated that about 151kg of undeclared and under-declared fresh vegetables and about 10kg of under-declared processed food was detected by its officers back in November 2019, in the consignments where were imported from Malaysia by LHH Vegetable Pte Ltd.

All the illegal consignments were then seized.

The authority stressed that illegally imported food products are of unknown sources and pose a food safety risk, noting that food imports must meet SFA’s requirements and food safety standards.

Food can only be imported by licensed importers, and every consignment must be declared and accompanied by a valid import permit.

Offenders who illegally import fresh fruits and vegetables are liable on conviction to a maximum fine of $10,000 and/or imprisonment for a term not exceeding three years while offenders who illegally import processed food are liable on conviction to a fine not exceeding $1,000 and in the case of a subsequent conviction, to a fine not exceeding $2,000.
