The National Solidarity Party (NSP) will contest against the People’s Action Party (PAP) in Sembawang Group Representation Constituency (GRC), like it did in the 2015 General Election (GE).

The NSP, which is headed by the Party’s secretary-general Spencer Ng, confirmed at the Nomination Day proceedings today (30 June).

“Now the GE is upon us and it is the best opportunity for us to choose a better and stronger government to have our voices represented… Change is a must and change is urgent and the change is to vote NSP,” said Mr Ng.

The five-member team for NSP includes:

  • Spencer Ng, NSP’s secretary-general
  • Ivan Yeo Tiong Boon, NSP’s treasurer
  • Sebastian Teo, consultancy firm managing director
  • Yadzeth Hairis, business development director
  • Sathin Ravindran, business owner

Both Mr Ng and Mr Yadzeth ran in Sembawang GRC in the 2015 GE, in which the PAP won 72.28 per cent of the vote share against the NSP.

The NSP team are up against the PAP team which comprises of:

  • Ong Ye Kung, former Minister of Education [leading the PAP team]
  • Vikram Nair, lawyer
  • Lim Wee Kiak, ophthalmologist
  • Poh Li San, Vice President of the Changi Airport Group
  • Mariam Jaafar, partner and managing director of the Boston Consulting Group

Sembawang GRC was previously led by PAP member Khaw Boon Wan, who announced his retirement from politics on 26 June.

During the NSP’s walkabout at Kampung Admiralty Hawker Centre – situated in Sembawang GRC – yesterday (29 June), the Party told reporters that it will focus on the abolition of the goods and services tax for essential items, making housing more affordable and allowing Singaporeans to withdraw from their Central Provident Fund (CPF) accounts at an earlier age.
