SDP asks Elections Department about legality of PAP flags displayed in public before Nomination Day

The Singapore Democratic Party (SDP) has reached out to the Elections Department to clarify the legal status of displaying party flags in public places before Nomination Day on 30 June.

In an email to ELD which was reproduced verbatim on the party’s Facebook page, Vice-Chairman of SDP John Tan shared photos taken on 26 June of six People’s Action Party (PAP) flags displayed in the area of Marine Crescent Garden.

The email said, “Can you please confirm if it is against election rules or laws to display a party’s flags in public places before Nomination day? If there is a violation, please let me know what you or the ELD is going to do about the violation shown in the photos.”

He went on to say, “If there is no violation, please let me know too as my party is planning to do likewise.”

In the Facebook post, SDP shared a photo of the flags being displayed next to a Google maps photo indicating the exact location.
