As Singapore enters into Phase Two of its reopening on Friday (19 June), political parties and candidates will be allowed to conduct walkabouts and door-to-door campaigning so long as it doesn’t exceed five people in a group.

However, due to the uncertainty of the COVID-19 situation in Singapore, People’s Voice (PV) has decided not to resume house-to-house or community visits until 26 June at the earliest, but instead will be conducting an online outreach session – titled ‘Living Room Rallies’ – this Sunday (21 June).

In a Facebook post earlier today, PV’s chief and founder Lim Tean explained that ordinary Singaporeans will be opening up their homes for the Party to shoot live rally-type messages and speeches, adding that fellow Singaporeans can tune in to watch at the comfort of their homes.

Mr Lim noted that this method of outreaching is rather promising as the Party will be able deliver its core message – “Make Singapore Our Home Again” – and connect directly with Singaporeans from all walks of life, given the current circumstances.

“We are the opposite of the PAP’s trickle-down, top to bottom policy approach. We believe in the ideas, resources and power of our people and in facilitating and carving out a platform for ground-up policies that benefit the many, not just a few.

“What better way to deliver this message than from on the ground, in real homes and real living rooms, connecting with ordinary Singaporeans from every race, culture and home circumstance.”

He went on to say that it is “utterly shameful and cruel” that the ruling party had insisted on calling for an early election amid the COVID-19 pandemic, despite the fact that the majority of Singaporeans had asked the Government to hold off the election as the nation is still reeling from the impact of COVID-19.

“The PAP seem unrepentant and resistant to the calls from the majority of Singaporean people NOT to call early elections during this period. At a time when the whole country is still reeling from the worst crisis we have faced in decades, the PAP are banging the drums of an early GE when they could have held them in 2021 and given people the time to heal and resume a normality.

“We in Peoples Voice think it is utterly shameful and cruel to place an extra burden on our nation at this time.  But when have the PAP ever listened to the people of this land?…

“With impunity they step forth, and we would say they are seeking a distracted voter, a voter so burdened with the current Covid-19 pandemic that they have little time or energy to open the can of worms of how the PAP have poorly managed Singapore since the last GE.

The ‘Living Room Rallies’ session will be streamed live on PV’s Youtube channel and Facebook page.

For those who misses out on the live session, the Party assured that it will post the live session as a video post on its Facebook page once the session is over.

The schedule of ‘Living Room Rallies’ will be shared on the Party’s Facebook page.

Besides that, the Party’s chief also extended an invitation to Singaporeans to be a host for the live session.

“If you would like to be a host for a Living Room Rally, all you need is a living room and a Wi-Fi connection, and we will gladly visit your home and shoot our video from there. You can remain anonymous if you prefer. Email [email protected] if you are interested in hosting a Living Room Rally,” Mr Lim wrote.
