The more the merrier, as far as the People’s Action Party is concerned.

The more opposition parties, the more multi-cornered fights at the general election, the less the PAP has to do. Except maybe rub its hands with glee.

Red Dot United has become the newest political party in the Little Red Dot. Its application was approved only three weeks after submission – double quick time, considering that the average processing time by the Registry of Societies is about two months.

So Red Dot United now becomes the 13th political party and can contest in the coming general election.

Not only do we have an extra political party to contest, we also get word that the likelihood of multi-cornered fights is high. Again, very good news for the PAP!

In the 2011 presidential election, four candidates were issued certificates of eligibility. In a straight fight, Dr Tan Cheng Bock would probably have beaten Dr Tony Tan. But with Tan Jee Say and Tan Kin Lian in the mix,  it became a crowded field of four competing Tans and we know what happened.

We are in 2020 and apparently, the opposition still thinks the more the merrier, the more crowded the better. If you are the PAP, you’ve got to be laughing your head off.
