A Bangladeshi man who reportedly came to Singapore in search of medical treatment unrelated to COVID-19 has been tested positive for the coronavirus.

The Bangladeshi national, who arrived last Wednesday (10 June), is Singapore’s first imported case since 10 May.

According to the Ministry of Health (MOH), the man’s health declaration submitted before immigration clearance indicated that he did not have any COVID-19 symptoms, and had not been diagnosed or suspected to have the infection.

He was tested for COVID-19 upon his arrival in Singapore, and his results came back positive three days later.

The MOH noted that contact tracing is ongoing, and identified close contacts have been placed on quarantine.

“The imported case was placed on Stay-Home Notice upon arrival in Singapore, and could only leave his designated place of residence for medical consultation and follow-up,” added the Ministry.

The Bangladeshi man is among the 407 new cases of COVID-19 infection reported in Singapore on Sunday (14 June).

This brings the total number of infected cases to 40,604.

There are nine cases in the community; of these four are Singaporeans/Permanent Residents, while five are work pass holders.
