“Lawrence Wong has become synonymous with the incompetence of the so called 4G leaders in handling the greatest crisis of our times,” slammed People’s Voice Party (PVP) chief and founder Lim Tean on Facebook on Tuesday (9 June).

In a scathing post on his social media page, Mr Lim criticised the speech Mr Wong gave on Tuesday as well as the speech by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong two days ago, dismissing both the speeches as “nothing more than a campaign speech”.

Mr Lim wrote, “It was a speech replete with motherhood statements, and offered absolutely nothing new from what Singaporeans did not already know.”

“In the early stages of Covid, many were praising Lawrence Wong’s presentation skills and saying that he ought to be in line to be DPM. On tonight’s performance, you have to agree with me that such praise is highly misplaced! There was not an iota of statesmanship or vision in that address.”

Accompanying the post was a screenshot of the definition of “motherhood statement”, which is defined as “a vague, feel-good platitude, especially one made by a politician, that few people would disagree with”.

The party chief went on to criticise Mr Wong’s bemoaning of not having the benefit of hindsight in relation to the explosion of COVID-19 cases among the foreign workers living in dormitories.

He also noted that the National Development Minister spoke about how social distancing, working from home, and wearing masks had greatly improved the situation in Singapore. But Mr Lim asked, “…but why didn’t he advocate all those things in early February when PV was already saying that they must be implemented!?”

Mr Lim hit back, saying, “Once again he was mouthing platitudes with the benefit of hindsight!”

The PVP chief went on to highlight the severely economic impact of the pandemic on Singapore, stressing, “Lawrence Wong is the face of the Taskforce that will go down in history as the most dismal Taskforce ever set up to handle a crisis.”

“Thousands of businesses which have closed as well as many hundreds of thousands of Singaporeans who have been financially crippled because of the incompetence of these 11 PAP Ministers who made up the Taskforce will surely agree with this statement,” he added.
