As of Friday (8 May) at 12 pm, the Ministry of Health (MOH) has preliminarily confirmed an additional 768 cases of COVID-19 infection in Singapore.
MOH noted that the vast majority of whom are Work Permit holders residing in foreign worker dormitories. Ten cases are Singaporeans/ Permanent Residents, bringing the number of cases in the wider community to double digits again.
Of 11 cases of community infection, one is a Work Pass Holder.
While another 7 cases involving Work Permit holders residing outside dormitories and 750 cases involving Work Permit holders residing in dormitories.
This brings the total tally of infection cases in Singapore to 21,707.
There are no imported cases today.
Of the new cases, 93% are linked to known clusters, while the rest are pending contact tracing.
Five new clusters identified
- 16 of the newly confirmed cases are linked to one previous case to form a new cluster at 25 Kaki Bukit Industrial Terrace.
- Two of the newly confirmed cases are linked to nine previous cases to form a new cluster at 63 Senoko Drive.
- Two of the newly confirmed cases are linked to 12 previous cases to form a new cluster at 53 Sungei Kadut Loop.
- 12 of the newly confirmed cases are linked to 12 previous cases to form a new cluster at 11 Tech Park Crescent.
- Three of the newly confirmed cases are linked to 11 previous cases to form a new cluster at 57 Tuas View Walk 2.
Cases from public healthcare sector
Case 21161 is a 34-year-old female Filipino national who is a Singapore Work Pass holder and has no recent travel history to affected countries or regions. She was tested for COVID-19 as part of MOH’s additional precautionary measures for nursing home staff and was confirmed to have COVID-19 infection on 7 May. She is currently warded at the National Centre for Infectious Diseases.
Prior to hospital admission, she had gone to work as a Resident Care Associate at Ren Ci @ Ang Mo Kio (Nursing Home).
Update on condition of confirmed cases
328 more cases of COVID-19 infection have been discharged from hospitals or community isolation facilities. In all, 2,040 have fully recovered from the infection and have been discharged from hospitals or community care facilities.
There are currently 1,245 confirmed cases who are still in the hospital.
Of these, most are stable or improving, and 22 are in critical condition in the intensive care unit. 18,402 are isolated and cared for at community facilities. These are those who have mild symptoms or are clinically well but still test positive for COVID-19.
20 have passed away from complications due to COVID-19 infection.
