On Thursday (7 May), the Legion of Racers (LOR) announced a partnership with The Rice Company Limited (TRCL) to provide Racing Simulation Online Classes for the underprivileged children during the circuit breaker period before the holidays kicked in.
The programme is part of TRCL’s #ENGAGE initiative, which engages Singapore’s vulnerable children and youths online with tons of educational activities on arts, culture, and lifestyle during this period of the COVID-19 circuit breaker.
Some of these vulnerable students had been heading to school these past few weeks before the holidays kicked in as they might not have the necessary digital resources at home, or they might require regular face-to-face support.
In this programme, the LOR received over 20 student sign-ups from two secondary schools – Juying Secondary School and Peicai Secondary School – and provided racing simulators for them at their school’s computer labs.
The LOR was also granted time limited exemption for business to assist in this initiative. The LOR’s simracing athletes Jason Tay and Jaden Low assisted the TRCL in the initiative during both activation days.
“It was an honour for us to be part of the #Engage programme in partnership with The Rice Company Limited to provide community service to the under-resourced,” said Lim Keong Wee, co-founder of the LOR.
“The LOR was set up to engage the wider community through e-sports and simracing and we will continue to support similar projects which benefit the public,” he added.

Singapore Redditor shares stories of “horrendous” treatment of foreign domestic workers

Redditor shares mistreatment of foreign domestic workers in Singapore, highlighting that abuse of FDWs can take many forms, including emotional abuse, despite growing legal protections against more visible forms of sexual or physical abuse. Some Redditors defended the access to cheap home help, arguing that it has uplifted the satisfaction of many households in Singapore and helped FDWs “earn money to invest” in their home countries. However, others refuted this argument, stating that the low salary of FDWs leads to undervaluing and abuse, and called for improving the treatment of FDWs.
