After having voiced out so much on Singapore’s plight in this Wuhan virus pandemic, I have tried to stay away and adopt an indifferent attitude towards the disappointment in Singapore being named No.1 having the highest number of infected cases in South-East Asia.
However my silence is short lived until today when many friends forwarded me what and how unapologetic our minister is saying “I have not come across one single migrant worker himself that has demanded an apology”.
I can’t hold my tongue and keep quiet on such insensitive remark and twisted reasoning.
I don’t feel proud putting such mentality right because I am an ordinary citizen not qualified to draw a million-dollar salary:
An apology is not by demand, but rather it should be out of sincerity and recognizing what has gone wrong due to one’s oversight, mistakes and lapses. There’s nothing wrong in saying sorry having caused so many foreign workers suffered an infection where it can well be contained with earlier insights, actions and prevention.
I will give due respect to a minister sincere enough to recognize and admit there are mistakes where the nation will be more forgiving vs giving stupid and lame excuses where it is revolting.
Singaporeans are kind people and can recognize an apology to reciprocate with a forgiveness. Our foreign workers are not any different!
