McDonald’s Singapore announced on Facebook today (30 April) that it will extend its closure beyond 4 May, despite was granted permission to restart operations under the essential services framework.
Earlier on 19 April, McDonald’s Singapore suspended its restaurant operations in all its outlets, including McDelivery and Drive-Thru until 4 May, after some of its employees were tested positive for the COVID-19 disease.
Following that, the fast-food chain in a Facebook post today announced that it extended the closures.
McDonald’s Singapore, however, did not specify when they will reopen again but said it would close “for just a little longer” to ensure the safety of its employees and customers.
“We will continue to monitor the COVID-19 situation in the community before determining an appropriate time for us to reopen,” it stated. “Our frontline employees are important to us and we wish for all of them to stay home a little longer.”
The company also reassured that its employees’ jobs remain secured and will be paid their salaries amid the temporary closure.
In addition, McDonald’s Singapore reported no new COVID-19 cases since its last updates, while seven infected employees are on the road to recovery.
“Many of you have sent your well-wishes – on behalf of our employees, we thank you so much. From our McDonald’s family to yours, we’re truly grateful for your patience and understanding. We miss you – and look forward to serving you very soon!” it said.
McDonald’s Singapore has more than 10,000 employees and over 135 restaurants across the country. It also operates 17 Drive-Thru, 42 dessert kiosks, and 48 McCafe outlets.
