Masagos Zulkifli is either a great comedian or has zero appreciation for irony

Minister for the Environment and Water Resources, Mr Masagos Zulkifli is either a great comedian or has zero appreciation for irony.
On Monday (27 April), he said that those who had who incited home-based food-business operators to pressure the Government into making exceptions for them during the period of tighter containment measures were “irresponsible”.
In backing up his statements he also said that the Government did not make decisions under pressure, especially when these decisions are harmful to society.
I wonder whether Mr Masagos has been following the mask wearing zig-zac, U-turns the Government has taken in recent weeks? Is he also aware of the changing rules that seem to spout a mile a minute in relation to the COVID-19 containment measures? If those measures don’t appear pressured, I don’t know what does?
While calling those who are trying to protect a basic livelihood “selfish”, has he considered how his Government has enabled the poor housing conditions of the migrant workers which has arguably contributed to the rampant spread of COVID-19? A bit rich to call individuals trying to make a living selfish when large corporations are allowed to make big bucks off the backs of migrant workers?
He further reminded people to be patient and to make necessary adjustments for the sake of the larger good. Has he considered that those who run home based businesses may not be able to afford any adjustments?
Instead of waxing lyrical from the ivory tower built by his superior ministerial salary, has he put himself in the shoes of those who actually need to make a living?
On top of this Mr Masagos said that it is in times of crisis that one will “know who our leaders are”. It is probably fair to say that in uttering that reprimand, Mr Masagos considers himself and the wider People’s Action Party (PAP) dominated Government to be the leaders.
However, in reality, the leaders are the individuals who are trying to take action to ensure that they survive the pandemic. They are ones trying to make a living for themselves instead of taking handouts or breaking the backs of others. Yet, it is these individuals that Mr Masagos is lecturing?
To top it off, Mr Masagos said “Let’s not let our sacrifices be in vain because of the interests of a few.”
May I ask what he has sacrificed in comparison to the vast majority of Singaporeans? By targeting individual home modest home based businesses but enabling big businesses to function is in actuality prioritising the interests of the powerful few while riding rough shod over the general public.
It beggars belief that Mr Masagos can utter these self righteous remarks in a time like this.
