For the last few days, Singapore’s COVID-19 cases have been on a drastic rise as more and more migrant workers living in dormitories have been tested positive for the virus.
While those who have contracted the virus have been placed in hospitals for treatment, others who are left behind in their dormitories continue to live a difficult situation where their movements are heavily restricted.
In response to this situation, SGcare Physiotherapy Clinic, a non-profit social enterprise offering Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy and Traditional Chinese Medicine services to low-waged migrant workers and the needy, has gone the extra mile to educate these workers on how to use a wear mask properly in order to safeguard themselves against the deadly coronavirus.
This was explained by Devon Ng, the Director of SGcare, in a Facebook post on Friday (17 April).
Mr Ng said that the organisation cannot imagine the fear and anxiety that these workers might be feeling now as they find out that know more and more of their friends, colleagues and relatives being diagnosed with the virus.
“Since the start of the circuit breaker, many of your friends, colleagues and relatives have become victims of the COVID-19 virus. We cannot imagine the fear and anxiety you are feeling now. But from all of us here at SGcare, we just want you to know that we care and we stand with you,” he said.
He added, “We hope that you continue to be healthy and safe from infection. We hope you return home to your families as healthy as when you came here to work.”
In the post, Mr Ng said that the team has worked with Migrant Workers Singapore to film a series of simple videos to teach these workers on ways they can keep themselves and others protected.
“Together with our friends from Migrant Workers Singapore, we filmed this series of simple videos to protect yourself and others. We just want you to know that we care, and our hearts go out to you in this season,” he said.
According to the organisation, the first video that it has published is in Tamil and explains in detail on how a mask should be worn.
The first step to wearing a mask correctly is to carefully hold the elastic loops and place it over the user’s ears without touching any other parts of the mask.
The blue side of the mask should be facing outwards while the white side should be covering one’s nose and mouth.
Once the mask is firmly secured on the user’s face, the next step is to adjust it so it covers his nose and mouth.
The user should also not forget to press the clip against his nose so the mask sits on his nose’s bridge.
The video also advised users to discard the mask anytime after four to six hours of usage. To remove it, the user should carefully remove it without touching his face and place it inside a bin that has a cover.
