COVID-19 Migrant Support Coalition to raise S$1,000,000 to help meet the needs of migrant workers affected amid circuit breaker

As part of the initiatives to support migrant workers in the country, the COVID-19 Migrant Support Coalition (CMSC) has launched a fundraising campaign with the aim of raising S$1,000,000. The funds will be used to support the coalition’s taskforce in providing for the immediate and medium term needs of migrant workers throughout this circuit breaker period.
Established on 6 April, CMSC is a newly-formed coalition between various non-government organisations – such as Citizen Adventures, ItsRainingRaincoats, Migrant x Me, and Singapore Migrant Friends – to carry out the mission of helping to facilitate the needs of migrant workers in dormitories across Singapore in the midst of the circuit breaker period.
The CMSC taskforce aims to support migrant workers with their immediate needs by providing meals and basic necessities as well as immediate assistance where necessary.
CMSC said, “To help our migrant friends cope with the stay-home notice period, we will be expanding our reach to provide items such as storable dry food, personal hygiene products, cleaning products and medical supplies, for those who have limited to no access to these resources.”
Aside from addressing immediate needs, CMSC also wants to promote meaningful occupational engagement and provide a one-stop learning hub for migrant workers to help equip them with new knowledge and self-care skills.
“As the impact of COVID-19 is expected to last for a prolonged period, the CMSC also plans and manages programmes for our migrant friends’ mental and emotional wellness. The intention is to engage them meaningfully during the Circuit Breaker measures,” CMSC noted.
CMSC also established a helpline (96446316) for migrant workers who need support in the form of meals or those who are struggling financially. CMSC is also rolling out a series of creative and free activity posters for workers to put up in their dorms.
In order to engage the local community with migrant workers, CMSC has also launched Majulah Belanja, a wish-matching platform between employers or dormitories operators and donors to help grant the wishes and needs of migrant workers.
Meanwhile, CMSC has collaborated with SG for FWs to collect inspiring and encouraging notes for migrant workers from the public via an appreciation campaign.
“These messages will be sent with the daily essential care packs, or posted across our social media platforms. If you’d like to be a part of this, you can add your appreciation note to the #SGforForeignWorkers repository via bit.ly/sgforfws,” CMSC stated.
According to CMSC, the coalition has collected S$300,000 so far which they believe will help provide more essential items for over 350,000 migrant workers during this challenging period.
